Mobile App Development
Create an intuitive user experience for a variety of consumers.
Design an app that makes starting a fitness and wellness journey simple and approachable, while creating a supportive, friendly experience that keeps users engaged at home.
The design approach focused on reducing friction for beginners while creating a warm, reassuring experience. Every interaction—from onboarding to tracking workouts and browsing recipes—was crafted to feel supportive, clear, and motivating. Color, typography, and iconography were selected to convey friendliness and clarity, while layout and navigation prioritized speed and ease of use.
Users needed a clear, supportive way to build healthy habits, as many feel self-conscious or intimidated by traditional gym environments. Despite these concerns, they are motivated to improve their health and are looking for an approachable, non-intimidating solution that helps them take the first steps confidently.
Competitor apps often limited access to customizable fitness routines and dietary plans, reserving these features for paid or premium users. In contrast, the initial EasyFit concept prioritized offering these tools freely to all users, ensuring a more inclusive and approachable experience.
(Note: Feature comparisons reflect the app’s initial concept; the project direction evolved during development.)
Users needed a sense of motivation and a workout experience that could be accessed anywhere, reinforcing the positive physical and mental benefits of exercise. While users were enthusiastic about fitness routines, they responded poorly to rigid diet plans, which felt restrictive. The app’s design needed to emphasize flexibility, accessibility, and encouragement, supporting users in building sustainable, positive habits without feeling constrained.
Users wanted control over their workout schedules, including the ability to choose the days and duration of their sessions, while still receiving guidance to ensure exercises were performed safely and with proper technique. The app needed to balance flexibility and personalization with clear instructional support, helping users build confidence and maintain healthy, injury-free habits.
The initial EasyFit concept offered free, fully customizable workout and diet plans for all users. However, early testing revealed that the user flow was overly complex, creating friction and confusion. To improve usability, the flow needed to be simplified and streamlined, allowing users to access personalized routines quickly and intuitively.
After evaluating project scope and user needs, EasyFit refined its focus to prioritize free, customizable workout routines. While healthy recipes remained accessible to all users on the free plan, fully customizable diet plans were moved to a premium tier. This adjustment simplified the user flow, reduced friction, and ensured the app delivered its core value—supporting users in building sustainable fitness habits—while still offering optional premium features for those seeking deeper dietary guidance.
Based on preliminary sketches and evaluations of successful elements and areas needing improvement, a standardized wireframe system was created to ensure visual and structural consistency across multiple team members. This framework provided a cohesive foundation for layout, hierarchy, and interaction patterns while allowing flexibility for iterative design refinements.
Before applying color to the wireframes, the team developed mood boards and style guides to define the app’s visual direction. Drawing on research insights, a palette of bright yet welcoming colors was selected to convey energy, approachability, and motivation, aligning the visual identity with EasyFit’s friendly and supportive brand personality.
Following initial feedback and the application of the style guide, wireframes were refined to enhance interaction clarity. Adjustments to color, typography, and button shapes improved visual hierarchy, emphasized actionable elements, and guided users seamlessly through the app, ensuring a more intuitive and engaging experience.
EasyFit was tested using wireframes and high fidelity prototypes.
Key buttons required to complete tasks were not immediately noticeable, creating friction and slowing users down.
Increased button size and introduced persistent static bars to keep essential actions visible at all times, improving discoverability and enabling users to complete tasks quickly and confidently.
Users were unclear on how to interact with certain features, as the interface lacked sufficient text or visual guidance.
Added descriptive subtext and contextual tips to provide clear direction, helping users understand interactions and complete tasks with confidence.
Users were confused between carousel navigation within an exercise and progressing to the next exercise, leading to interaction errors.
Updated the button label from “Next” to “Continue” to clearly indicate progression to the next exercise. Replaced carousel arrows with indicator dots to distinguish between exercise demonstration and timer features, improving clarity and reducing navigation errors.
